The 2018 Subaru Levorg STI Sport is now with us, but the popularity of wagons doesn’t seem to be eclipsing the SUV segment quite yet. Despite this, the market for affordable performance wagons is hotly contested, and one of the primary rivals for the Levorg is the Skoda Octavia RS 245 TSI. In this article, we will take a brief look at how these two models compare to help you make an informed decision.
Specification Comparisons:
The prices of these two models are virtually identical dependant upon your choice of dealership. Bearing this in mind we will focus on the differences in standard equipment levels of the Levorg STI Sport and the Skoda Octavia RS 245 TSI.
The Octavia has plenty of features supplied as standards, such as black exhaust tips, leather and Alcantara seat trim, a 9.2” infotainment system, satellite navigation, adaptive LED headlights and tail lights, front and rear parking sensors, progressive steering, selective driver modes and 19” alloys. There is an optional extra Tech Pack available that adds equipment such as advanced keyless entry, smart start, adaptive chassis control, park and braking assist, and a Canton audio system with ten speakers.
The Levorg STI Sport standard equipment highlights, include: leather-trimmed maroon seats, a brand new front bumper and grille look, a Sports mode, a 7” infotainment system, heated front sports seats, a smart rearview mirror, the EyeSight safety suite and STI branded 18” alloy wheels. This offers an advanced level of equipment compared to the Octavia without the Tech Pack which comes at a significant additional premium price.
Under the Bonnets:
A performance focused sport wagon need to add some excitement to an everyday commute or on the weekends.
The Octavia uses the same engine as the Golf GTI; this is a 2.0L turbocharged petrol unit that can generate 180 kW of power and 370 Nm of torque. This is paired with a front wheel drive system and controlled with six speed DSG. In real terms, this gives the Octavia RS 245 TSI an acceleration of 0-100km/hr of 6.7 seconds, a top speed of 250 km/hr and a reported combined fuel efficiency of 10.9L/100km.
The Subaru Levorg STI Sport also uses a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine, but it has a better performance of 197 kW in generated power and a slightly lower 350 Nm in torque. That being said, as a Subaru the Levorg has a tried and tested AWD platform paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission. The acceleration figure is 0-100km/hr in 6.6 seconds and a claimed fuel consumption of 8.7L/100km combined.
