The Subaru EyeSight Safety System is a Hit with Australian Drivers

Subaru EyeSight Technology

The third generation of the popular EyeSight Safety System has now arrived in Australia, and it is already a hit with drivers here. Speaking about EyeSight at the launch of the 2016 Subaru Liberty, Outback and Forester, Nick Senior the Subaru Australia Director said: “It’s probably one of the successful technologies” the brand has introduced. So what makes the 3rd generation EyeSight Safety System so special?

What Does the 3rd Generation EyeSight Safety System Have to Offer?

Subaru has always taken the safety of their vehicles very seriously, and the first generation EyeSight system was revolutionary. This latest version of the EyeSight Safety System has some fantastic features, such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking assist, pre-collision braking, pre-collision steering assist,  lead vehicle start alert, brake light detection and lane departure warning. There is also an advanced vision package available, which adds: blind spot monitoring, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert and high beam assist. These systems are both available on the latest versions of the 2016 Subaru Liberty, Outback and Subaru Forester. It is expected that other vehicles that are in the Subaru pipeline will also feature EyeSight and the advanced vision package.

How Popular is the EyeSight Safety System?

Subaru has stated that they treat their active safety technologies as having the same importance as their AWD systems. The sales of EyeSight systems represented approximately 40% of Subaru total sales in 2015. Subaru anticipates that this figure will only increase over time, and they have received a great deal of positive feedback from their customers. From a purely health and safety perspective, Subaru has found that business fleet managers are preferring EyeSight fitted vehicles over their usual cheaper choices.

The Difference that is the EyeSight Safety System

Subaru was the first manufacturer to deliver an SUV with a 5 star ANCAP safety rating, and they have dedicated their efforts to continuing this engineering excellence. Subaru Australia Director Nick Senior has stated that Subaru has been specifically marketing about the benefits of EyeSight. This Subaru EyeSight technology is a real difference that Subaru has over their competitors in a number of different segments. He said “When you look at an Outback with Eyesight and vision assist” you will find a lot of vehicles in the same segment that are “double the price and don’t have the technology.” When the preventative EyeSight system is added to vehicles that already have incredible active and passive safety systems, you get cars that are very safe to drive. Although it may seem like the next step up from this latest version of EyeSight is autonomous driving cars, that may be some way off yet. The technology is virtually in place, but infrastructure, government policy and a host of other issues would need to be addressed first. This will happen eventually as more people adopt these kinds of technologies, and it is more a question of when rather than if.
